Seizing the opportunity
Most (85%) pharma-biotech commentators say the biggest issue facing our industry is the R&D pipeline for innovative therapies coupled with pricing as branded products come under pressure from intense competition with a rising tide of generics undercutting their margins. At the same time, the cost of raw materials coupled with the high price of meeting ever more stringent EU directives compels bigger players to look offshore, for example to India and China, for supplies.
What the headline writers often miss, however, is that tremendous new opportunities are opening up for small and medium-sized enterprises, both for the contract services organisations (CSOs) and their customers. The tiny Principality of Monaco is quite familiar with the challenge of riding the economic storms. The fact that VB International has weathered an extended downturn in the lifescience sector, while hosting its 6th Annual Bio/PharMOS event since markets reached their peak in 2000, is a tribute to the dedication of Vanina Broens and her team.
Whether the outsourcing community of both the CSOs and their customers cares to acknowledge it or not, those who remained loyal supporters of this niche, family-run event have reaped the benefits.
The Bio/PharMOS 2007 conference programme for 20-21 March picks up three strands, which plait together into a forum of strength for the competitive advantage of the registered delegates:
A panel of speakers, carefully chosen for their skills and business experience, will be on hand to guide delegates to help them understand the complex issues involved in the new market conditions we now face. Carpe diem! There's no better time than now to seize the day of opportunity.
