Bayer split on the future of its pharma business

Employees voice concern on the future of their company

In its leader, French business daily Les Echos underlined "heavy divisions within Bayer" about the future of the company’s pharmaceuticals business. President of the work’s council and Vice-President of the group’s Board of Trustees, Ehrard Gipperich, said in a statemet to the German press that "as far as the representatives of the employees was concerned, there was no question of Bayer accepting a minority stake in a combined pharmaceutical company, nor a joint-venture with 50:50 split".

While the Board of Trustees of the Bayer group has an equal representation among its staff  and shareholders, Les Echos considers that "declarations such as these risk jeopardising Bayer’s negotiations to find a partner for its pharmaceutical operations".

It seems that President of Bayer, Werner Wenning, was astonished by the press revelations as "all options concerning the future strategy for its pharmaceuticals business had been presented to the Board of Trustees."
