AMS closes exclusive deal with J&J for alginate dressings with silver fibre
Silver is a safe and effective, broad-spectrum, anti-bacterial agent used in controlling infection. Advanced Medical Solutions Group plc (AMS) based in Winsford, Cheshire, UK has been busy developing a unique way to incorporate silver fibres into alginate-based, wound dressing products.
On the back of this development effort, AMS has now revealed an exclusive supply agreement with Johnson & Johnson Wound Management - a Division of ETHICON, Inc. - to supply the novel dressing materials. This follows a collaboration agreement, reached with J&J back in May 2002, for AMS to supply its range of calcium alginate products under J&J’s NuDerm brand.
The technology developed by AMS allows a controlled and sustained release of silver into the wound without adversely afecting the performance of alginate as a wound dressing.
AMS has exercised an option to license the X-STATIC® silver fibre technology from Noble Fiber Technologies Inc. that gave AMS worldwide rights to market products using the Noble technology.
Johnson & Johnson Wound Management will serve as AMS’ global exclusive marketing partner for the new products, which will be distributed under J&J’s SilverCel™ brand later this year.
