Ivax Pharmaceuticals completes site with help from $6 million grant

Ivax Pharmaceuticals, the UK subsidiary of Miami’s Ivax Corporation, currently operates two sites in Runcorn Cheshire for its successful nebulizer, injectable and ophthalmic products -- but it’s up to the limit of capacity.

A new $41 million site under construction at nearby Preston Brook is nearing completion thanks to a $6 million in grants from the North West Development  Fund, which provided $2.8 million, and the Regional Selective Assistance, which contributed a further $3.3 million.

Confirming the development and the imminent closure of the Runcorn sites, in preparation for transfer of production and personnel to Preston Brook, Steve Forrester-Coles, the site director at Ivax Pharmaceuticals UK, acknowledged the support provided through NWDA and RSA "as pivotal to the success of the whole expansion project and will secure the long term success of the business, safeguarding existing jobs and creating new opportunities."

The patented Steri-Neb™ nebulizers are used in asthma treatment, a condition that has increasingly affected all age groups for the past 20 years and currently costs $16 billion worldwide in for treatment.
