PPD's Scottish expansion

02 August 2007 - News Editor

Investing $30m to create about 390 white collar jobs

PPD, Inc. is planning to expand its operations in Bellshill, Lanarkshire, in order meet increasing demand for its drug development services. The company expects to invest up to $30 million to expand its Bellshill offices over the next three years.

According to Fred Eshelman, CEO of PPD, as global outsourcing in the biopharmaceutical industry is increasing to speed drug development and reduce costs, "demand for our services continues to grow."

This investment will include construction of a new 34,000-sq.ft. facility adjacent to the company's existing Fleming House offices also comprising 34,000 sq.ft., which were opened earlier in the year.

PPD currently employs more than 350 professionals in Scotland at its Strathclyde Business Park. The expansion will create about 390 additional jobs in biostatistics, data management, pharmacovigilance, product development, and clinical trial management and monitoring.

Until the new facility is completed, PPD will retain space at Avondale House in Strathclyde Business Park.
