BMS Saint Nazaire's Research & Development pharmaceutical services group to be a centre of excellence.

With its know-how and business skills, Galenix is poised to join the ranks of leading International independents in terms of its development services, harnessing the Bristol-Myers-Squibb's (BMS) development group as an essential technological platform.

Galenix, based in St Jean D'Illac (Gironde), France, has acquired the BMS R&D unit based at St. Nazaire, including its 26 BMS employees.

Announcing the deal in time for the European Biotechnology Crossroads in Lille, the Galenix CEO, Jérôme Besse added that his company had "already launched a recruitment plan for 10 people, starting early 2006."

With the acquisition of the Saint Nazaire's pharmaceutical activities, Galenix, would master all stages of the global drug development process, thereby affirming its position as a pharmaceutical centre of excellence.

Galenix is now in a position to manufacture and pack, as well as to control clinical and pilots batches of medicinal products needed  for both European and US Marketing Authorisations (Food & Drug Administration, FDA).

To be known as Galenix Pharma, the St Nazaire unit, will fully complement current structures based in St Jean d'Illac (Gironde): Galenix Innovations, Galenix Development and Galenix Biotech.
