Site spin-off for production of hormonal products preserves about 350 jobs
Within a matter of weeks of news reports of restructuring in France's outsourcing sector, it's the turn of Delpharm to take steps for its business development and growth.
Delpharm is to take over the site for producing hormonal products from Schering S.A. a subsidiary of Germany's Schering A.G, located at Lily-lès-Lannoy near Roubaix (Northern France, Pas-de-Calais).
The deal will protect the positions of about 350 employees, while other staff engaged in research, marketing and administration will be unaffected and will remain at Lily-lès-Lannoy.
The plan to divest this production site for hormonal products was announced earlier this year, due to problems faced by Schering in terms of 'under-capacity'.
Delpharm, currently has three production and product finishing sites in France employing 508 people, and achieved a sales turnover of 55 million euros in 2004.
Accrding to figures from LEEM, France's association for the phamaceutical industry, outsourcing accounts for about 6,000 people in France, i.e., nearly 25% of the total manpower currently engaged in the production of pharmaceuticals.
