Inpharmatica and Galapagos Genomics to collaborate in therapeutics discovery

Inpharmatica Ltd based in London, UK and Galapagos Genomics NV, the Belgian functional genomics company based in Mechelen, have entered into a drug discovery collaboration.

Inpharmatica will use its unique chemogenomics technology platform, PharmaCarta™, to identify therapeutic targets selected by Galapagos from its internal disease research projects.

Galapagos is to grant Inpharmatica access to its PhenoSelect™ adenoviral expression platform for a subset of Inpharmatica’s novel nuclear receptors. Inpharmatica will use the adenoviral technology as part of its own in-house discovery programme to further validate and prioritise these receptors as targets for drug development.

Commenting on Inpharmatica’s chemogenomics technology platform, PharmaCarta™, Onno van de Stolpe, CEO of Galapagos sees that this "will enable us to rapidly progress our most tractable targets into drug discovery,” joining "a growing number of companies that have chosen to use our adenoviral gene expression technology."

Inpharmatica’s CEO, Dr. Malcolm Weir anticipates that “Galapagos’ unique PhenoSelect™ technology will enable us to efficiently functionally characterize and therefore prioritise our portfolio of novel nuclear receptors,” observing that the collaboration "further reflects the increasing demand for access to PharmaCarta™ and the growing recognition of the enormous benefits of using a unified chemogenomics platform, based on comprehensive and expert data analysis and interpretation, and powerful informatics, to drive the gene- to- drug discovery process.”

Financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.
