Oxoid Limited, which is ranked among the world’s leading suppliers of culture media and microbiological diagnostic reagents, has launched the second generation of its Microbiological Air Quality Sampler for monitoring and detection of airborne microbiological contaminants in critical areas, such as laboratory clean rooms and on product manufacturing lines.

The new Oxoid M.A.Q.S. II is a lightweight and easily portable instrument. It can be taken practically anywhere requiring air quality monitoring.

Airborne micro-organisms, including bacteria, yeasts and moulds, can cause significant problems in the pharmaceutical industry. It’s important, therefore, to ensure that clean room air quality standards are maintained in all necessary R&D, processing and manufacturing areas. The new M.A.Q.S. II allows the quality of air in such areas to be monitored routinely, enabling otherwise unseen changes in the environment to be detected quickly and reliably.

The M.A.Q.S. II model features a new, easy-to-attach, quarter-turn, bayonet style sampling head and a new smooth outer casing that is more chip resistant and easy to disinfect. In addition the system can now be used with a range of agar plates (irradiated or non-irradiated), without affecting the flow rate.

Battery operated, it has an extended battery life and rapid battery recharging, suitable for frequent and continuous sampling.

M.A.Q.S. II complements Oxoid’s existing hygiene monitoring range, which includes a wide selection of products for the microbiological testing of raw materials, surfaces, water and other liquids.
