About BioAlliance Pharma - ’the drug resistance company’
BioAlliance Pharma SA is a late stage biopharmaceutical company with a focus on developing and commercialization of innovative drugs targeting cancer, HIV, severe infections and supportive care products.
As a privately held company, BioAlliance has two broad proprietary drug delivery platforms as represented by the Lauriad® adhesive technology and the Transdrug® nanoparticle technology, which offer multiple product opportunities. Together with an NCE program of molecules being developed as new therapies in oncology and HIV, the company is poised to address worldwide markets in the EU, US, and Asia
The company’s lead product is miconazole-Lauriad® 50 mg, a Bioadhesive Buccal Tablet, which has completed two Phase III clinical trials in Europe for the treatment of oropharyngeal candidiasis, a potentially life threatening oral fungus frequently contracted by immuno-compromised patients, including cancer patients who have undergone chemotherapy or radiotherapy, HIV patients and others.
BioAlliance has completed a pre-IND meeting with the US FDA and later this year will file an IND to conduct a single Phase III pivotal study in immuno-compromised patients in the US. This is due to commence during the first quarter of 2005. Registration is expected in Europe in 2005 and in 2006 for the US. The company is in the process of identifying a partner to complete the development and to commercialize this product in Japan. A near-term follow-on product, acyclovir-Lauriad® for treatment of oral herpes, is expected to enter the clinic in Q1 2005.
The lead product in BioAlliance’s nanoparticle program, doxorubicin-Transdrug®, is in a Phase I/II study in the EU for treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) via IA administration. This product has received Orphan Drug Status in the EU and application for similar status in the US has been submitted to the US FDA. A Phase II study is expected to start in Q1 2005. Two follow-on products, an oral formulation of zidovudine-Transdrug® for treatment of HIV in the GI tract, and an oral formulation of paclitaxel-Transdrug® for treatment of ovarian, breast and lung cancers, are currently in development.
